Roaches vs Rats

Last night I was awakened by a rat eating a roach in my hut. It was a weird crucnhy sound- kinda like the sound of someone eating potato chips with their mouth open. After chasing the rat out, I couldn't really fall asleep quickly. So I started wondering which I would I rather have in my hut: roaches or rats? Picking the lesser of two evils- kinda like modern american presidental politics: carefully weigh who has the lowest knee jerk response.
I decided that I would rather have roaches. Roaches don't have teeth that can chew- meaning they cannot easy get into my food. Although roaches can climb quite easily on walls, they don't scamper around and wake me up in the middle of the night. Another point to roaches. On the other hand, roaches don't eat rats- you can't wish for everything. What decided it for me was that I don't think that a cobra is going to go after a roach- they'd rather have a meaty rat or a juicy frog. Roaches are just potato chips to them.
Roaches win because of the snake factor.

First off, I am applying to the peace corps at the moment and I am waiting for the tool kit password right now. Um so I know sengal is know for snakes, so have you had to deal with one yet? Hopefully you dont. And how is your access to electricity and communications to stateside?

Oh yeah, roaches totally win.. rats are nasty buggers- big, scampering, noisy.. and, of course, mammals.
You just scared the peace corp out of me. I just recently applied and have spent endless nights researching the many horrific things that could go bump in the night...roaches (shudder) the one thing I never considered...which is odd considering it's my one and ONLY fear in this world. I wonder how my host family will react to my constant panic attacks...
